NRS e-invoicing, implemented properly

The Nigeria Revenue Service is moving businesses onto its e-invoicing platform, the Merchant-Buyer Solution (MBS), in phases by taxpayer size. We get your ERP, accounting, billing and point-of-sale systems ready, connected and tested, and train your team to run them.

The problem we solve

A compliance change that touches every invoice

E-invoicing is more than a new form. For business-to-business and government sales, each invoice is validated by the NRS before it is issued and carries an invoice reference number and a cryptographic stamp. Your systems must produce structured invoice data, submit it, store the response and deal with rejections.

That reaches into your ERP or accounting software, your billing and point-of-sale systems, your customer and product data and the way your finance team works. We handle the technical work from start to finish, so compliance does not get in the way of sales.

What you get

End-to-end e-invoicing implementation

Readiness audit

A review of your invoicing systems, data quality (customer tax IDs, product codes, VAT treatment) and processes, with a clear plan for your onboarding timeline.

System integration

Your ERP, accounting, billing or point-of-sale system connected to the MBS through the NRS API or an accredited access point provider, with signing, submission and responses handled automatically.

Every system you invoice from

Several entities, branches and invoicing systems brought together, from large ERPs to custom billing applications, and spreadsheets replaced where they cannot comply.

Testing and go-live

End-to-end tests, including rejections, credit notes and debit notes, before you switch over.

Training for finance teams

Practical training on the new invoicing flow, handling rejections and corrections, and the daily checks that keep you compliant.

Support after go-live

Monitoring of submissions, help when invoices are rejected, and updates when NRS requirements change.

Who needs to act

Phased by taxpayer size

The NRS is bringing businesses onto e-invoicing in phases. Large taxpayers were required to complete onboarding by 31 July 2026, and compliance monitoring has begun. Medium taxpayers are being onboarded through 2026 and 2027, and smaller businesses follow, with full nationwide implementation targeted for 2028. Timelines can change, so confirm your category and dates in the NRS’s own notices.

  • Business-to-business and government invoices are validated before they are issued
  • Each validated invoice receives an invoice reference number (IRN) and a cryptographic stamp identifier (CSID)
  • Validated invoices cannot be edited: corrections need a credit or debit note
  • Submissions and responses must be kept for audit

How it works

From readiness check to compliant invoices

  1. Assess

We confirm your category and timeline, list every system that issues invoices, and check your data.

  2. Prepare data

Customer tax IDs, product and service codes and VAT settings cleaned up and kept clean.

  3. Integrate

Systems connected through the right route for your volumes, with secure credentials and logging.

  4. Test

Real invoice scenarios tested end to end, including rejections and corrections.

  5. Go live and support

A planned switch-over, staff trained, and submissions monitored afterwards.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to use an access point provider?

Most businesses connect through an NRS-accredited access point provider, while some larger organisations integrate through the API. We help you choose the route that fits your volumes and systems, and check that any provider is listed in the NRS directory.

Our deadline has passed. What now?

Speak to the NRS and your tax adviser about your position, and start onboarding straight away. We can run a fast readiness check and prioritise the work that gets compliant invoices flowing.

Can you work with our existing ERP or accounting software?

Usually, yes. Many systems now offer e-invoicing connectors; others need custom integration. We assess what you have and avoid replacing systems unless it makes sense.

Is this tax advice?

No. We handle systems, data, integration and training. Your tax adviser should confirm your obligations, category and timelines.
